Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced HSEQ Business Partner to join our team and provide strategic support to the Operations Director while reporting to the HSEQ Director. This pivotal role will drive the implementation and continuous improvement of health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across our civil engineering operations. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership & Support
- Partner with the Operations Director to integrate HSEQ considerations into operational planning and decision-making processes
- Provide expert guidance on HSEQ matters to support business objectives and operational excellence
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with operational teams across all levels of the organization
HSEQ Management & Compliance
- Implement and maintain comprehensive HSEQ management systems in accordance with relevant standards and legislation
- Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements
- Monitor and report on HSEQ performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement
- Ensure all incidents are properly investigated, documented, and followed up with appropriate corrective actions
Training & Development
- Design and deliver HSEQ training programs tailored to operational needs
- Support the development of HSEQ competencies across the organization
- Promote awareness and understanding of HSEQ responsibilities at all levels
Continuous Improvement
- Lead HSEQ improvement initiatives and best practice sharing
- Stay current with industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging best practices
- Support the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, and standards
Essential Requirements
Qualifications & Certifications
- National General Certificate in Health, Safety & Environment (minimum requirement)
- Additional relevant HSEQ qualifications (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent) highly desirable
- Professional membership of relevant bodies (IOSH, IIRSM, or similar) preferred
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in HSEQ roles within the construction or civil engineering sector
- Proven track record of working in partnership with operational teams
- Experience in developing and implementing HSEQ management systems
- Demonstrated ability to influence and drive change across organizations
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of health, safety, environmental, and quality legislation and standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HSEQ management software
- Full UK driving license
Desirable Requirements
- Degree in a relevant discipline (Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or similar)
- Experience with ISO management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001)
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and construction industry best practices
- Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis
- Previous experience in civil engineering or infrastructure projects
