Government’s New Targets
The UK Government have launched their plans into kick starting a world-leading hydrogen economy.
The use of hydrogen energy is an important step into sustainable energy use throughout the UK and will play a huge part in organisations meeting net-zero carbon targets.
The UK currently has targets for there to be zero carbon emissions by 2050, with goals to for 5 gigawatts of low carbon hydrogen capacity by 2030.
Energy & Climate Change Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan said:
“Today’s Hydrogen Strategy sends a strong signal globally that we are committed to building a thriving low carbon hydrogen economy that could deliver hundreds of thousands of high-quality green jobs, helps millions of homes transition to green energy, support our key industrial heartlands to move away from fossil fuels and bring in significant investment.”
Bloom Energy Hydrogen Platform Approved
Conrad Energy and Electricity North West have announced their plans on the new development, this will vet a collaboration to bring a solid oxide power generation platform to the UK. This is expected to be launched in December 2021.
Bloom’s new platform uses ambient air, biogas, hydrogen or natural gas to generate electricity, this is an electrochemical process which has no combustion making a significant reduction in carbon emissions, air pollution and usage of water.
All energy is generated on-site and will operate 24 hours a day with zero carbon electricity used in the process.
The collaboration will see Conrad Energy as the project financer and primary energy supplier, Electricity North West will lead the installation and Bloom Energy will supply its energy servers.
Hydrogen has mass potential to erase carbon emissions across all industries and this collaboration will play a key part in the UK’s carbon emission goals. We are looking forward to sharing future updates.
