New homes, workplaces and supermarkets will now require having an electric charger when built by law. The new regulations will also be implemented on buildings undergoing major renovations.
This move comes as the UK government looks to accelerate the use of electronic vehicles and meet the target of new petrol and diesel cars being banned from 2030.
Boris Johnson said:
“The force driving that change won’t be government, it won’t even be business…it will be the consumer. It will be the young people of today, who can see the consequences of climate change and will be demanding better from us.”
The laws are said to make refuelling a much easier task with the accessibility to be charged at home.
Currently in the UK, there is over 25,000 charging points for electronic vehicles, but the Competition and Markets Authority has said that this will need to be over 10 times more to power vehicles if the move goes ahead in 2030.
The move comes as we work towards a sustainable future, as vehicles contribute towards over 16% of emissions in the UK.
At JN Civils, we have installed electronic charging points for different premises around the UK, contact us today for more information.
